About Department of Economics

Department of Economics is one of the pioneering departments of the college ,it was established in the year 1960 and post graduate classes started from the year 1964 onwards .At present there are five regular faculty members in the department ,2 Professors ,2  Associate Professors and 1 Assistant Professor. Dr. Pankaj kumar is the head of the Department, he and Shailja Joshi have their specialisation in mathematical economics, Dr Bharti Singhal has specialised in Gender Economics , she has done extensive research work on issues related to women’s formal and informal work. Dr. Pankaj is also a resource person of SEBI.

Many of the faculty members are life members of Indian Economic Association and Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Economic Association and participate regularly in their conferences.

Presently 16 students are engaged in research work in the department .Some of our students have also made their places in the merit list. In the year 2019-20 Ms Jyoti Kandpal was the topper of Kumaon University and another student Ms Laxmi Sahu has bagged 2 awards in the year 1920-21,one of the gold medallist at the university level and the other some sponsored award. Mr. Amit Joshi and Ms Akansha Rawat who are pursuing their Ph.D from the department at present have also qualified their NET.

Department of Economics organises quiz, debates , extempore lectures and workshops for overall  development of students from time to time. Students are also encouraged and motivated to give their presentations for internal assessment using modern tools and techniques so that they can at least get themselves acquainted with the recent tools for expressing themselves.
